Howdy GreenStage Supporter!
If you have seen our shows, you’ve come to expect lively, thoughtful, accessible, and free Shakespeare in the Park every summer. GreenStage is the longest running Shakespeare company in the state, bringing free programming to Seattle area parks for 31 years. In that time we have stayed true to our goals of engaging audiences with the works of Shakespeare and encouraging more people to attend live theatre by removing economic and geographic barriers. Free theatre brought straight to your neighborhood park.
2019 was a success for us in many ways, but also presented some challenges. Our storage rent increased by nearly 30%, adding several thousand dollars to our annual budget. We were also heartbroken when our longtime media sponsor, KUOW 94.9, put their nonprofit partnership program on hold for the year. This resulted in a last minute scramble to adequately promote the summer season. To address these issues we’re now working to widen our media sponsorship net for the 2020 season, and eliminating some items from our stock in order to reduce our storage footprint and our rent.
We also need to raise a little more money – that’s where we need your help.
Income from performances covers around 70% of our expenses, the rest comes from grants and generous donations from our supporters. Our goal of raising $10,000 by the end of the year is $4,000 closer thanks to those of you that attended our Fall Fundraiser and Auction. But we still need one more big push to reach our goal for 2019.
