The health and public safety of our community is GreenStage’s number one priority. We strongly support all measures that protect our audience and artists. We encourage all of our patrons to follow the safety guidelines as set forth by King County.
In the light of the continuing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, GreenStage has made the very difficult decision to cancel our 2020 summer programs. It has become obvious that gathering in large groups is simply not safe for our audiences, or for our casts and crews. We had hopes of presenting at least some of our season, but your health, and ours, must take priority.
There is truly nothing we’d rather do than to come out to play in the parks with you this summer. But the last thing in the world we’d want to happen is to take part in spreading this virus any further. So this year, let’s all keep a little distance, stay home, and stay safe.
This cancellation includes our Shakespeare in the Park productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Henry V, our Backyard Bard productions of Twelfth Night and The Tempest, the Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival, and our summer camp program. It is our plan to return to the parks in 2021 with all these same programs and plays.
While we won’t be entertaining you in the parks this summer, we are planning some online events. At the time of this announcement, we are finalizing casting of our productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Henry V, and The Tempest, and the actors and company are looking forward to the challenge of presenting rehearsed readings in an online setting. Details will be announced soon at www.greenstage.org, on our social media feeds, and through our our email newsletter.
And if you want to do a little reading yourself, we will be continuing our monthly play reading series using Zoom. This happens on the second Sunday evening of each month, and anyone can sign up to help read, or just to listen to the play.
